KENNY MONTEIRO M.ED.

Kenny Monteiro, founder and CEO of Friends and Mentors, Inc. is a lifelong resident of Brockton, MA. His work within the community began at the age of 14, where he started as a Peer Leader for the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton and has since evolved into founding/organizing multiple youth-serving programs including FAM Mentoring Program and Boxers Basketball Club. 

 

Driven by a love for his community and commitment to youth empowerment, Kenny has brought transformative youth programming to hundreds of youth in the city of Brockton and has since been recognized for his commitment. His awards include the Youth of the Year Award from the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton (1999), Salliens Dumay Above & Beyond Award from the Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Program (2007), Martha D. Jones Outstanding Dedication to Students Award from Bridgewater State University (2014), and Extraordinary Leadership Award from the Brockton Youth Foundation (2016).

 

Kenny received his M.Ed in 2015, specializing in Educational Leadership and has a BS degree in Business Information Systems and African/African-American Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. 

 

Kenny’s journey with FAM began in 2008 when he was asked to develop a program addressing the drop-out rate in Brockton Public Schools. In collaboration with several other Bridgewater State University staff, Kenny created the framework for the Friends and Mentors for Change Mentoring Program. 

 

In 2015, Kenny moved on to Boston College, where he was employed as the Assistant Director of Urban Outreach Initiatives. There he led the College Bound program, a pre-collegiate enrichment and support program, and the Charles F. Donovan Urban Teaching Scholars program, an intensive Masters in Education program leading to teacher licensure, that seeks to prepare educators to work in urban schools.


Kenny is a father to two sons, a basketball and football coach, an entrepreneur, and avid sports fan.
